Leros Island, Greece

The Island of Artemis

Leros island is an island of the Dodecanese Archipelago. Leros island is a land with rolling hills and small green valleys. The picturesque small gulfs of its coasts and the the dark blue waters of its sea make it an ideal place for pleasant vacations, in an intact natural environment.
The island was inhabited from Prehistoric Times. Leros island took part in the Trojan War and, in ancient times, its numerous and safe natural ports made it a commercial power and a wealthy place. Leros island was in the hands of the Turks from 1522 until 1912, when the island was ceded to the Italians. In 1948 it became part of Greece.
